Travel to Germany – Chemnitz Germany

The city of Chemnitz Germany is in the Free State of Saxony and it dates back to the 1100s where a Slavic tribe first settled. In the mid-1100s Benedictine monks lived in the abbey on the hill. That building still stands today. Chemnitz today is a city struggling for economic stability though it has experienced impressive growth since the late 1990s. Many of its old city buildings were rebuilt after World War II and if you are a fan of architecture you will find many lovely specimens in Chemnitz.

A small concentration camp once stood in Chemnitz, housing five hundred female prisoners. In February and March of 1945, Chemnitz Germany was hit by significant air raids that reduced the city to ruins. Many of the pre-ware buildings were restored and some of the oldest buildings survived. Portions of buildings from the twelfth century are still standing today.

Three hours from Berlin and six hours from Munich, Chemnitz Germany is connected to the Autobahn and is highly recommended by those who have visited. Take the double-decker train and snap a picture of the beautiful Chemnitz gardens or visit the statue of Karl Marx or one of the wonderful museums in the city.

This city of 245,000 people has something for everyone. Modern Chemnitz had its roots in manufacturing and textiles but that industry is waning now. During the height of its production, Chemnitz Germany swelled to well over 300,000 people but with the decline of this industry the popular decreased.

If you plan to stay in Chemnitz for a leisurely visit, you may wish to choose a guest house, a hotel residenz or Residenz Hotel or a bed and breakfast. These accommodations allow you to experience the people and the atmosphere of Germany in a more personal setting.

Whatever brings you to Chemnitz Germany, and no matter how long you stay, you will make beautiful memories in this city.
